About the artwork
Shot in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Electrified is a photograph made by Drift on top of the AM Bank Tower spire.
The artist had only arrived in the country hours before and woke up from a nap to an intense thunderstorm. Rather than shy away, he was anxious to explore the new city and set out into the storm. A few hours later he found himself atop the spire of this tower with the city's cyberpunk colours below.
The lightning rods buzzed as he climbed, and the top of the spire was increasingly thin.
When creating this piece, Drift was, as he had many times before, walking that special line between life and death in many ways.
"I want to show the audience the illumination that lies beyond self-preservation. In foregoing our fears, we enter and create from the divine."

Isaac Wright
1995
Isaac "Drift" Wright is a multidisciplinary artist and U.S. Army veteran whose journey into photography began as a means of healing from PTSD, displacement, and Bipolar Disorder. Through daring urban explorations, he captures unseen perspectives of cities, blending high-risk performance with breathtaking visuals.
In 2020, Drift’s passion for documenting the world led to his arrest and four months of incarceration without bond. His military background was weaponized against him, turning his story into a national headline featured on the front page of The New York Times. Despite these challenges, Drift emerged as a pioneering figure in photography, known for pushing boundaries and defying convention.
Drift’s work explores themes of performance art, mass surveillance, bodily agency, and the surreal, creating captivating imagery that takes viewers to the fringes of reality. His process, as he reflects, captures not only the world but also his personal transformation: “They are living, breathing documentations of change, including the changes within myself.”
Merging emotion, purpose, and a unique perspective, Drift’s photography is a testament to resilience and the power of art to transcend adversity.

"A catalyst for change in how we experience and engage with art."
- 01
Self-Authorization in the Face of Mass Surveillance
Drift's art challenges the pervasive systems of control and visibility, positioning himself as an agent of his own narrative. By capturing forbidden perspectives, he asserts a sense of autonomy and freedom within environments where individuality is often suppressed.
- 02
Race and Reclamation of Bodily Agency
There’s an implicit acknowledgment of how Drift’s identity shapes his work. His photography becomes a site for reclaiming agency—his body, his story, and his gaze—all amidst societal structures that often marginalize these narratives.
- 03
Surrealism and the Fringes of Reality
Drift's images flirt with the boundaries between the real and the unreal, evoking a sense of divine surrealism. His ability to find the extraordinary in urban landscapes transforms the ordinary into something transcendent.
- 04
Fine Art Merging Emotion and Purpose
