About the artwork

This piece was made by the artist last summer in Victoriaville, Quebec with the Centre d’art Jacques et Michel Auger, an exhibition center dedicated to contemporary visual and media arts. The theme of the project was wasteland and agriculture residing together, the artist created an art installation with lichen drawings on canvas in the middle of a wooded area, which inspired the piece.

Artist Karine Locatelli focuses on drawing landscapes inspired by northern Québec and rural areas. For Locatelli, fishing, hiking, gathering plants, and sailing are ways to maintain a manifest relationship with nature that leads to her portrayals. The artist concentrates on creation and growth outside of major urban centres. Her works are included in many esteemed public and private collections, including those of the Musée d’art contemporain de Baie-Saint-Paul, the David Suzuki Foundation, the Ville de Lévis, and TD Bank in Toronto.
