About the artwork
Guardian Angel is a deeply personal and evocative piece, inspired by Hafftka’s reflections on life’s uncertainties and the universal yearning for guidance and protection. The artwork explores the concept of guardian angels as both a comforting fantasy and a means of coping with life’s challenges, such as loss and hardship.
Drawing from his own experience of losing his mother at a young age, Hafftka captures the emotional duality of longing for protection and confronting life’s impermanence. His brushstrokes evoke a palpable intensity, inviting viewers to engage with the piece on both a personal and collective level.
“The concept of a guardian angel is a beautiful one, universal across all cultures,” Hafftka reflects. Through Guardian Angel, he offers a deeply emotional lens on resilience and hope.
“Winston Churchill’s words, ‘Success is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm,’ perfectly capture the persistence required to create and grow as an artist.”
